Chelsea star and Belgium international Eden Hazard alongside his
teammates survived a major round of 16 elimination scare in the Russia
2018 World Cup as they came from 2 goals down to beat Japan 3:2 and seal
a place on the quarter-finals of the competition, subsequently booking a
mouthwatering clash against Brazil.
Hazard, captain of the side expressed joy that he and his teammates
didn’t fall short this time, as they avoided a repeat of Euro 2016,
where they were booted out of the competition in similar fashion after a
shocking 3:1 defeat to Wales.
A similar fate stared them in their faces as Japan raced into a 2
goal lead in the opening stages of the second half, before they rallied
back into the game with goals from Vertonghen, Fellaini, and Nacer
Chadli who delivered the knockout punch to Japan in the 94th minute of
the game.
“We were thinking it was going to be like two years ago against
Wales, but we were also thinking, ‘if we can score goals the game is
on,'” Hazard said. “We have players that can change a game, we brought players from the
bench who made the difference, so today we are just happy to have won
and have gone through to the quarter-finals.” Belgium will now come up against Brazil in Kazan. Hazard spoke briefly about the expected cracker of a game. “ When it comes to the match on Friday, it is going to be magnificent
because playing against Brazil is always amazing as a football player,”
said the 27-year-old. “We are going to rest really well and going to really try to win that match.”
